Since 2008 Jack Johnson has donated 100% of all tour proceeds to support environmental, art and music education. For more information please check out www.allatonce.org.

As our school year draws to a close, we’re celebrating our hard work and encouraging all students to eat healthy through our school-wide Urban Sprouts events. Thank You!!!
On May 1st, we held our 3rd annual Greens, Eggs, and Jam Brunch at Ida B. Wells High School. This was our largest turn-out ever and it was fantastic to see everyone. Our guests were treated to a fabulous brunch prepared by the chefs from: Contigo, nopa, Radio Africa and Kitchen, and our own Urban Sprouts student chefs.
Over 140 people toured our garden, ate tasty food, and learned about the work that we do here in San Francisco building healthy schools and communities. If you were unable to attend but would still like to make a financial contribution please donate HERE. Your donation will enable us to continue to support school gardens at 7 San Francisco public middle and high schools reaching over 750 students and their families with in-school garden-based education.
A HUGE thank you to all of our community partners who helped make this event a success:
La Boulange, Tomatero Farm, Peets Coffee & Tea, Mission Pie, 18 Reasons, Bi-Rite Market, Piece of Peace, Blue Bottle Coffee, Gracias Madre, Guerra Quality Meats, Expanding Qi, Arizmendi Bakery , Ida B. Wells Continuation High School, and all of our Urban Sprout students chefs and speakers, partner schools, staff, and volunteers!
See you all next year!!!

Aptos Gets a New Garden Mural
Take a look at our new garden mural at Aptos Middle School! Students, parents, and volunteers showed up at the start of Spring Break for an afternoon of spray painting, gardening, and community connection. Under the guidance of graphic artists, Marlon Sagana Ingram and Joseph Aponte, of Media Fresh, our school garden has now taken on a new life. This project has been in the works since last fall and would not have happened without the support of Aptos principal, Mr. Marcoux. Thank you also to the school PTA for giving Urban Sprouts the green light! To see more photos on our flickr site, click on the pictures above and below.

Scarecrows and sauerkraut
At June Jordan School for Equity, we are battling urban wildlife in a quest to get our spring garden established. Snails, birds, and gophers have forced us to use row cover to shield sprouting seeds, wire cages to protect seedlings, and recycled CDs and plastic bags as urban scarecrows. Our tactics are meeting with some success, but the tenacity of the foraging creatures is also a great reminder of some of the challenges in gardening. Read the rest of this post »

The school garden teaches youth and their families how to plant, tend, harvest, and prepare fresh produce through hands-on experience.
Teachers note that the garden is an environment where students and adults create trusting relationships.
