Summer Sprouts Internship

Summer Sprouts is a paid summer job readiness program for San Franciscan high-school youth ages 14-18 looking to affect positive change in their communities through food justice, ecological gardening, and cooking. This three week, 60 hour program will be primarily based at the June Jordan School for Equity Farm & Kitchen. To be eligible, you must be enrolled at a SF Unified School District High School for Fall 2024.

Participants will learn:

  • how to grow delicious and nutritious food, beautiful flowers, and medicinal plants without harming the environment;   

  • how to cook and prepare meals daily using ingredients from the garden; and  

  • how to make lip balms, body salves, and soap; herbal medicines; and natural plant-dyed textiles; and  

  • ways to advocate for equity in the food system.

Desired Skill & Experience

  • An interest in gardening, social/environmental justice, food justice/sovereignty, and cooking

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently

  • Compassionate and energetic attitude

  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and be creative 


Schedule & Compensation

  • June 10th - June 27th, Monday - Thursday, 10am - 3pm. Interns will be required to complete 60 hours of work.

  • Participants must be San Francisco residents, aged 14-18, enrolled in or entering a SFUSD high school in Fall 2024.

  • This is an hourly position, $18.93/hour.

  • Interviews will be scheduled between May 13 - 22nd

  • 20 open positions

  • Programming is held in the June Jordan School for Equity Community Farm & Kitchen in the Excelsior. Some opportunities for Farmer’s Market work and field trips.
