Sprouting Leaders Internship

Sprouting Leaders is a six-week paid summer internship for San Francisco youth ages 15 - 18. This program is ideal for students looking to improve their leadership skills and effect positive change in their communities through food justice, ecological gardening, and cooking. Participants complete approximately 144 hours of work with this program, during which they will cook meals for cohort and community events, participate in hands-on farming activities and work at the farmer’s market booth at Mission Community Market selling JJSE grown plants, flowers, and products.

Learn

  • The fundamentals of ecological urban agriculture and cooking from the garden;

  • How to improve their leadership skills;

  • How to plan and facilitate educational gardening and cooking workshops for their peers; and

  • How to advocate for equity in the food system

Desired Skill & Experience

  • An interest in gardening, social/environmental justice, food justice/sovereignty, and cooking

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently

  • Prior leadership experience

  • Compassionate and energetic attitude

  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and be creative 


SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

  • Schedule is June 1st – July 12th; Monday – Thursday, 9am – 3:00pm. (Additionally, occasionally 2pm - 7pm on Thursdays and one Saturday) Interns will be required to complete approximately 144 hours of work.

  • Participants must be San Francisco residents between the ages of 15-18 and enrolled in a San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) High School for Fall 2023.

  • Participants must have a SSN or an ITIN with work authorization.

  • This is an hourly position, $18.xx/hour.
