COVID- 19 HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS 

SUMMER PROGRAMMING 2021

Daily Protocol Before Arriving to The Farm

  1. Each morning, all Urban Sprouts staff and Sprouting Leaders will conduct a symptom check, and take their temperature. 

    1. Urban Sprouts staff and Sprouting Leaders will determine if they have experienced any of the below symptoms in the last 24 hours / since last at the farm that is not related to a pre-existing condition:

      1. Fever, Chills, or Repeated Shaking/Shivering

      2. Cough

      3. Sore Throat

      4. Shortness of Breath

      5. Feeling Unusually Weak or Fatigued 

      6. Loss of Taste or Smell

      7. Muscle pain

      8. Headache

      9. Runny or congested nose 

      10. Diarrhea

  2. Urban Sprouts staff will document and report their symptom status and temperature to Urban Sprouts Executive director each morning. 

  3. Urban Sprouts Program Staff will contact all Sprouting Leaders by phone/text between 8:15 - 8:30am to record their temperature and ensure a symptom check has been completed. 

  4. If any Urban Sprouts staff or Sprouting Leader is sick, they will not go to the farm. If sick, 

    1. Sprouting Leaders must notify, Program Manager Adriana Blanco.

    2. Urban Sprouts staff must notify, Executive Director, Ileana Mar.

  5. If anyone has temperature above 100.4 degrees fahrenheit or above symptoms:

    1. They must stay home and seek a seek COVID-19 test.

    2. Urban Sprouts staff and Sprouting Leader parents/guardians must follow the criteria as issued by the City and County of San Francisco Health Officer Directive, as well as any applicable requirements from the quarantine and isolation directives (www.sfdph.org/dph/alerts/coronavirus-healthorders.asp) before they can return to The Farm.

      1. If anyone is required to self-quarantine or self-isolate, they may only return to The Farm after they have completed self-quarantine or self-isolation. 

      2. If anyone tests negative for the virus (no virus found), they may only return to The Farm after waiting for the amount of time listed on the criteria as issued by the City and County of San Francisco Health Officer Directive after their symptoms have resolved. 

      3. A medical clearance letter in order to return to the Farm is not required as long as they have met the requirements outlined in the attached criteria.

  6. Urban Sprouts staff and Sprouting Leaders are only permitted on The Farm once a symptom and temperature check has been completed that day, and it has been determined that they do not have any symptoms or temperature.

Daily Protocol on The Farm

  1. Prior to Sprouting Leaders’ arrival, everything that might be used or touched will be sanitized by Urban Sprouts staff.

  2. Everyone must wear a face mask while they are on The Farm, including drop-offs (those “dropping” people off must also wear masks). 

    1. The mask must cover their nose, mouth, and chin at all times, except to hydrate themselves, and except during designated eating periods in the specified eating locations. 

  3. Upon arriving at the Farm, everyone must wash their hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. 

  4. All personal items brought to The Farm must be washed or disinfected this includes cells phones, computers, etc.

  5. Once everyone has arrived, health and safety rules will be read aloud

  6. No more than two people are allowed inside the kitchen or inside any farm structure at a time.

  7. Meal/snack time will be staggered. 

    1. Urban Sprouts staff will eat at separate times, so that they do not remove their face coverings at that same time as the Sprouting Leaders, or other staff. 

  8. Before leaving, everything that has been touched must be wiped down with disinfectant.

  9. If anyone develops any of the above listed symptoms (1. a) or fever during the workday, they will be sent home.  

    1. They must follow the protocol in 5. b. before returning to work.

Health & Safety Protocols for Urban Sprouts Staff and Sprouting Leaders

  • Maintain 6 feet between yourself and others at all times.

  • Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • When you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow. 

    • If possible, do so far away from the group.

  • Wash your hands frequently, especially before eating, after going to the bathroom, or after wiping your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

  • As much as possible, limit bringing personal items with you to the garden.

  • Do not share personal items such as clothing, computers, or cell phones with anyone.

  • Do not share garden tools or materials.

    • Try to maintain your same materials throughout the day

  • No more than 12 youth participants may be part of this cohort or present for the program.

Recommendations and considerations from the City and County of San Francisco Public Health Department:

  • It is recommended to change clothes and shoes before or upon arriving at home after a shift in order to reduce the chance of their clothing or shoes exposing anyone in the household to the virus and that such clothing should be cleaned before being used again.

  • Discourage drop-offs from those over the age of 60 or with pre-existing conditions that make them vulnerable.

  • Consider setting a regular cleaning schedule for the start of day, end of day, and throughout the day.

  • Review hygiene and cleaning practices weekly.
