Summer Sprouts is a paid three-week program for youth age 13 -17, looking to effect positive change in their communities through food justice and ecological gardening.
Participants will learn:
how to grow delicious and nutritious food, beautiful flowers, and medicinal plants without harming the environment;
how to cook and prepare meals daily using ingredients from the garden; and
how to make lip balms, body salves, and soap; herbal medicines; and natural plant-dyed textiles; and
ways to advocate for equity in the food system.
Desired Skill & Experience
An interest in gardening, social/environmental justice, food justice/sovereignty, and cooking
Ability to work collaboratively and independently
Compassionate and energetic attitude
Willingness to learn, ask questions, and be creative
Schedule & Compensation
Schedule is June 17th – July 5th; Monday – Thursday, 10am – 3pm.
No programing on July 4th
Saturday, June 22nd 11am – 4pm is also required.
Participants must be San Francisco residents between the ages of 13-17. This is an hourly position, $15.00/hour.
